Foods to Avoid in Pregnancy
- Blue-veined cheeses and soft, rind-ripened cheeses like Camembert, Brie or Chevre. Hard cheeses (e.g. Chedda) and cottage cheese are fine.
- All kinds of pate (including vegetable).
- Unpasteurised milk. This and the cheeses and pate mentioned above, can contain Listeria, a germ that is implicated in miscarriage, stillbirth and serious illness in newborn babies.
- Raw or lightly-cooked eggs, to avoid the risk of Salmonella. Eggs should be cooked until the white and yolk are set.
